Alabama’s 2024 election results epitomize why fighting against discriminatory redistricting allows Black voters to exercise their true political power. They revealed that — as the civil rights community knows well — when Black voters aren’t split across or overly packed into legislative into districts, both of which can dilute their votes, they can elect candidates who truly serve their needs and interests.

When Yarilette visited the emergency room in Fall of 2020, she couldn’t believe she might be pregnant. She was 19 years old, in her first year at community college, and living with a friend after an altercation with her mother led her to being kicked out the house.

In San Antonio, Texas, community members and advocates gathered outside of the federal courthouse on October 2, 2023 with emblazoned signs in hand, shouting spirited chants.
