1. INTRODUCTIONIn septic pulmonary embolism (SPE), a relatively rare form of pulmonary embolism, the thrombus, which contains pathogens, is mobilized from the site of infection and implanted into the pulmonary vascular system [1, 2]. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common pathogen [3]. In a case series analyzing 60 patients with SPE, 78% were intravenous drug users [4]. Staphylococcus aureus causes SPE, and is associated with a high mortality rate and poor prognosis.
