    It occurred around 5 a.m. near the 4900-block of Sooke Rd, between Gillespie and Kangaroo Road. West Shore RCMP say a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by a 41-year-old woman, was travelling eastbound when it crossed the center line. It collided head-on with a taxi travelling westbound. The 65-year-old male cab driver his teenage passenger and the female driver of the other vehicle were all seriously injured. Sooke Rd was closed in both directions for approximately two hours.

    He says they've received complaints from across the province about children, including those with disabilities, being excluded from school with little or no instruction. He say they will assess the role of the Ministry of Education and Child Care and school districts in the exclusions. Complaints indicate that school districts are excluding students due to disruptive or unsafe behaviour, or inadequate resources devoted to adequately support the student’s learning in the school.

    Following a busy holiday season, The Butchart Gardens is folding it's foliage and going into hibernation mode for a couple of weeks. The world-renowned green space will be closed from Monday, January 20 to Sunday, February 2 to allow staff time to rest and renew. Staff will be prepared to welcome back nature lovers starting Monday, February 3. Butchart officials say they will extend all 12 Month Passes valid between January 20 & February 2, 2025, by two weeks to cover the closure.

    The incident began around 3 a.m. Sunday morning, when patrol officers spotted a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road in near Tyee Rd and Esquimalt Rd.When the vehicle failed to stop, a chase ensued, ending when the suspect vehicle crashed while attempting to navigate a corner. The driver and passenger have minor injuries. The Independent Investigations Office is now involved, determining whether police action contributed to the collision.
