    FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 30, 2024) – Gov. Andy Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, Aug. 31, in observance of Overdose Awareness Day in Kentucky. In addition to lowering the flag, the Governor’s Mansion will be lit purple, the color designated to show support for overdose awareness.

    The Adair County Cooperative Extension Service will be offering free tree seedlings to the public. Seedlings are available starting January 13-15, 2025 or until supplies last. Seedlings available include: redbud, pap paw, black gum, pecan, and persimmon. Individuals may have up to four seedlings total. Seedlings have been sourced from the Kentucky Division of forestry. These seedling sales are available to the general public and can be found online at the Kentucky Division of Forestry website.

    The LWC Band is Holding an Emergency Water Drive for Eastern Tennessee Community Devastated by the Remnants of of Hurricane Helene   In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raider Band is organizing a water drive to help the community of Newport, Tennessee.   “The flooding in Newport is incomprehensible,” said Blue Raider Band Director Anthony Baird.

Andy Beshear signed an executive order officially banning the practice of conversion therapy on minors in the state of Kentucky. “Kentucky cannot possibly reach its full potential unless it is free from discrimination by or against any citizen – unless all our people feel welcome in our spaces, free from unjust barriers and supported to be themselves,” said Gov. Beshear.
