Officials from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources are gathering additional information and carefully evaluating next steps following Monday’s announcement by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture that lab testing confirmed chronic wasting disease (CWD) in a deceased deer from a Breckinridge County deer farm. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has opened an additional 60,233 acres for public hunting in eastern Kentucky via the landowner-cooperator program. In honor of National Hunting and Fishing Day, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will host a celebration at the Salato Wildlife Education Center Sept. 28. The Salato Center will offer free admission throughout the day, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (EDT), as well as a variety of hunting and fishing exhibits, demonstrations and activities for everyone. The first 50 children (ages 5-17) will get a free fishing pole courtesy of Sheet Metal Workers Local #110.
