    The National Records of Scotland have confirmed that there were 1172 people who died from a drug-related death in Scotland in 2023. Scottish Drugs Forum CEO Kirsten Horsburgh responded, ‘The number is often the focus of attention, but we must always remember the personal, family, community and national tragedy each of these deaths represents. All overdose deaths are preventable and one is too many.

On Tuesday this week National Records of Scotland will publish the latest figures on drug-related deaths in Scotland. In anticipation of that publication, Scottish Drugs Forum publishes new report Medication Assisted Treatment: Evaluation of Current Practice Across Eight Health Board Areas in Scotland.

An important part of this activity is learning and sharing information about the drug supplied in Scotland and the related risks and harms. The drug market is evolving quickly and people using drugs are keen to know what issues are arising and to share their own insights.
