Nassau County police say a burglary happened at Blooming Nails and Spa on Westbury Avenue in Carle Place shortly before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. According to police, a man threw a rock through the front glass door then entered the nail salon, stole money and ran off. The subject is described as a white male, height 5 feet 9 inches or 5 feet 10 inches, 160 pounds with brown hair, and he was wearing a mask.

Michael DeAngelo, of Lindenhurst, is set to be sentenced Friday afternoon in a Mineola courtroom. He is expected to be sentenced to 7-21 years behind bars. News 12 Long island was told there will be three victim impact statements given by family members. Last month, DeAngelo pleaded guilty to killing four members of a family while driving high on drugs. The fatal crash happened on Sunrise Highway in East Massapequa in August 2023.

Fire officials say the blaze broke out at a home on Arleigh Road in East Meadow at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Nassau police say the house was fully engulfed in flames. Multiple fire departments responded. According to the North Bellmore fire chief, the blaze was put out at 5:04 p.m., and the home sustained significant damage including the second floor partially collapsing. Police say three adults and two children, including a newborn baby, and a dog were evacuated safely.

Loved ones paid their final respects Saturday afternoon at the Hagerman Fire Department in East Patchogue to volunteer firefighter Christopher Hlavaty who was with the department for two years. Family, friends and fellow firefighters who are gathered to honor and remember Hlavaty, say he was always helping people. Police say Hlavaty was killed when he was struck by a car while riding his newly purchased motorcycle in Patchogue. Family members say he was on his way to help a friend with his truck.
