    Off to the RacesOnly eight days into the new year and things have already been exciting in markets… depending on your definition of exciting. The moves really began at the end of 2024 and have persisted since. Let’s start with Treasury yields. As of Wednesday, January 8, the 10-year Treasury yield is at 4.70%, up 55 basis points since early December. The rise can be attributed to some strong economic and inflation data and commentary from the incoming administration on possible tariff policies.

    As children head back to school in September, families have to support with the inevitable rise in illnesses as they get back together with friends after a long summer break. Winter is just around the corner and this is the time of year that we’ll see the prevalence of seasonal illnesses rise. Many children will experience these, which is part of growing up, but it is important to recognise common symptoms and what you can do if your child falls ill.

    The mid-year outlook is always an interesting combination of a report card and a progress report. It’s a time to review our annual outlook and see what has materialized as expected and what hasn’t. It’s also a time to check in on year-to-date market activity, economic developments, and to recalibrate an outlook for the second half of the year. Our 2024 outlook was titled “A Cycle for the Ages” and still feels very appropriate.

    A “whole provider approach” is required. Isn’t that what an Access and Participation Plan is asking you to do anyway? So in an access and participation plan, what should providers include in the “whole provider approach” section? Building on previous research and an analysis of wave 1 Access and Participation Plans (APPs), we have been working with 28 higher education providers to help answer these and other knotty questions.
