For those curious to explore beyond the bounds of the Hudson Valley, the 28,000-population hamlet of Saratoga Springs is home to some lovely restaurants, a noted racetrack and a historic hotel. These new finds range from high-end Chinese to comfort food and Latin and Asian fusion.

Many of these countries were primarily encouraged, and then often forced, to make off-dry and fortified wine for Russia and the ex-Soviet Republics. So much so that wineries in Moldova, a country that borders the Ukraine, had train tracks that could be loaded with product right outside many wine producers’ doorsteps.
