On Saturday, November 11th, the first ever Live on the Plains took place at Sistrunk Farms in Opelika, Alabama. The festival was created by the same people who created the Auburn Rodeo, with the vibes of the festival being similar. The main difference between the two is that Live on the Plains is a straight music festival with no actual Rodeo in sight. The performers came from two different fronts. Openers Hudson Westbrook, Bayker Blankenship, and Braxton Keith gave the modern country flavor.

Johnny Manchild and the Poor Bastards - "Fake Me Out"The Bastards are back with their second single from their new album, Rapture Waltz, that comes out March 22nd. “Fake Me Out” tells the story of living with bipolar disorder. The song features the return of the horn section and does a great job at balancing the alternative/punk sounds that JMPB is known for. The song feels like it’s fighting against itself.

6) Zach Bryan - Zach BryanThis year’s release of Zach Bryan’s self-titled, sophomore album continues the singer-songwriter’s reign as a generational sensation– one that extends far beyond the realm of the country music world. I don’t consider myself a country music “fan” by any means, but I find myself constantly revisiting this album. Though it definitely boasts plenty of Americana classics, the genre of this album can feel oddly ambiguous at times.

Johnny Manchild and the Poor Bastards - Oh, Songbird The Poor Bastards are back with their first single since 2022. “Oh, Songbird” is the first single released for their upcoming album, Rapture Waltz, that releases on March 22nd. The song is a small departure from previous singles as it gets rid of the horns section that JMPB is known for. The song was written during the pandemic, and Manchild sings about the isolation he felt during lockdown.

Chris Stapleton - Higher8-time Grammy award winner Chris Stapleton is back with his 5th studio album. It’s his first since 2020’s Starting Over. Love is the name of the game as the majority of songs deal with love in one way or another. Stapleton dedicated this album to his wife and backup vocalist Morgane Stapleton. Even though some songs are slower, the album still packs a punch. The album’s lead single, “White Horse,” and “Crosswind” are fast paced southern rock ballads.

Seven-time Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter John Mayer made his second trip to Atlanta in 2023 on his solo tour. The tour is the first time Mayer’s done a tour without a band. Mayer had previously performed at State Farm Arena in March with Joy Oladokun opening for him. After a successful spring tour, Mayer decided to come back to ATL in the fall, this time with singer-songwriter JP Saxe opening. I started the night in the highest seats you could get in State Farm arena.

A tree clings its withered branches onto a house. These are all visuals that Jack Cooper shot for his short film for the album Island of Noise. Jack Cooper is an artist who’s been in the music industry for nineteen years.
