    A woman from Niangua is currently in police custody awaiting potential charges in connection with the shooting deaths’ of both her mother and her stepfather. The Webster County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened along Bowen Creek Road Monday night at around 8:00pm, when the woman allegedly got into an argument with her mother and stepdad regarding the care of her own child. Deputies say the argument escalated, and she shot both her parents to death before fleeing the scene.

    Drury University and its athletic department is mourning the loss of beloved former coach and athletic director Dr. Edsel Matthews. University officials announced Monday that Dr. Matthews passed away Sunday at the age of 83. His legacy began as an assistant coach for Drury Panthers basketball in 1967-68 before becoming the head coach in 1971. He was the head coach of the Panthers until 1978, and was also the Director of Athletics at Drury that final season.

    The Springfield Police Department put an increase focus on reducing gun crimes in the city this year, and so far it’s working extremely well. In a report released Thursday, SPD says that so far in 2024 only 21 people have been injured in shootings in Springfield. That, compared to 43 at this same time in 2023, is a more than 50% decrease.

    Just over a year after Utah-based Maverick bought the convenience store chain Kum & Go, the company has decided it is time to change to the new name. The process to change all Kum & Go locations to Maverick was announced last year, but company spokespeople officially confirmed the changes have begun earlier this week. There are 400 Kum & Go locations across 13 states in the United States. The report did not specify how long the process would take.
