TICONDEROGA –— Once a prosecutor of serial killers and career criminals, retired Essex County District Attorney John McDonald Sr. died at home Saturday after a brief illness. McDonald, 94, got a guilty plea from Adirondack serial killer Robert Garrow Sr. in 1975 after a kidnapped woman’s body was found in a mineshaft in Mineville in the town of Moriah. A Ticonderoga resident and lifelong Republican, McDonald also prosecuted numerous other killers during his 21 years as District Attorney.
