After almost two years of enduring construction and remodeling and still running a school, the construction projects at Ludington High School and the OJ DeJonge Middle School are finished and ready to be unveiled to the community. A ribbon cutting is set for 5-7 p.m. at the new high school entrance, one of the many changes designed into the project.

One of the ways we can navigate Michigan winters is because of the snowplow crews who are out in the early morning, overnight and at various other times during a snow event. Being able to do their job without endangering themselves or others is a no-brainer. A new law gives snowplows a little more clearance from drivers on the road.

Talk about a proposed Battery Energy Storage System facility being considered for Victory Township has merit. Jupiter Power officials confirmed that there are plans in the works to build a facility in Mason County similar to the other projects that the company has completed, but also said that it is too early to provide many details. “It’s at a very early stage of a project,” said Maggie Glynn, Senior Associate, Communications & Public Affairs for Jupiter Power.

Photographers love a beautiful snowfall. It captures the beauty of winter, with the fluffy flakes clinging to branches, covering the ground and everything on it. But, winter is two-faced, as much of the region saw with the first snowfall of the season bringing slippery roads, strong winds and the threat of a winter storm.’According to the National Weather Service, most of West Michigan will remain under a winter storm warning from 5 p.m. Wednesday through 1 a.m. on Friday.

According to reporting from The Detroit News, Mason County Prosecutor Beth Hand has been named in a petition filed by the parents of Denis Preska, a 21-year-old University of Detroit Mercy college student who died after unknowingly taking drugs while cramming for a test in 2017. The petition is seeking a reinvestigation and filing of criminal charges in relation to the death of their son on March 19, 2017.

The newest member of the Ludington Police Department, K9 Unit Bella, will be introduced to the community during the Aglow on the Avenue Parade on Saturday. Friends of the Ludington Police announced this introduction of the new K9 Unit who has recently joined the Ludington Police Department in a press release. The Friends raised the money to add Bella to the force.

Much like the rest of the nation, the unofficial election results for Mason County showed former president Donald Trump receiving the support of 10,830 registered voters in the November 5 election and winning the popular vote here. Vice president Kamala Harris earned 6,969 votes. Candidates from other parties received 288 votes. Officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program recently. One of these semifinalists is Noah Lowman, who attends Ludington High School. As a semi-finalist, Lowman has the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be off offered next spring.

At the West Shore Educational Service District’s board meeting Tuesday, three new positions were added that Superintendent Jason Jeffrey said is a response to a growing need for services for Special Needs students. The first position will add another speech language pathologist to the support services team. WSESD currently has 12 speech pathologists on staff serving 500 students.

About 11 a.m. Friday, law enforcement officers were dispatched to Pentwater in response to a report of a body floating in the lake. It was indeed a body, that of a male. According to information provided by the Michigan State Police Hart Post, a death investigation is underway. It is likely to be a few days before the identity of the man and the circumstances of his death are released, said a trooper at the Hart Post in response to a Daily News inquiry.
