Scioto County Commissioner Bryan Davis is decrying the standstill of economic development in the wake of the former director’s corruption indictment. At last week’s regular meeting of the county’s board of commissioners, Davis said economic development in the county has been “nonexistent for two months.”“My concern is we do not have a ship or a captain and we’re 60 days in,” he said. Former Scioto County Economic Development Director Robert P. Horton was indicted on corruption charges Feb. 14.

A Portsmouth man has been sentenced to two to three years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person. Tarik Matthews, 22, of Portsmouth, was arrested last fall when Portsmouth detectives executed a search warrant at his home. The Portsmouth Police Department was contacted by Internet Crimes Against Children about child sex abuse material sent from an apartment on Thomas Avenue.

A Piketon man facing charges in a fatal crash last year has been found competent to stand trial, according to court documents. The recent road slippage caused by heavy rains and storms closed some local roads. The cost of repairing them will be in the millions of dollars. According to Scioto County Engineer Darren Lebrun, the heavily traveled Feurt Hill repairs are being estimated at $3 million. He told the Scioto County commissioners Thursday he expects $2.5 million of that amount to be covered by state emergency grants.
