Book ReviewFor Mother’s Day this year, my daughter gave each of the moms in attendance a book. Each one had the same distinction — it had appeared on a recent list of banned books. The book I received was Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. According to PEN America, for the 2023–2024 school year, it was the number one most frequently banned book having been banned 98 times. The American Library Association also puts out a list of the 100 “most frequently challenged” books of each decade.

Is This What Aging Is? I’ve had two recent episodes of seeing the past, present, and future me all at the same time. Last weekend was the most recent experience, and it was Volunteer-Me I was seeing. A couple of weeks earlier, it was Workout-Me.In each case, I wondered if I needed to tell the younger me something or if I needed to get advice from the older me? Looking back on it, I wonder if I am just supposed to be “in the moment”?

Book ReviewHere is a great quote from Liars by Sara Manguso: “I had infinite patience with my one-year-old, whom I held to the behavioral standards of a two-year-old, and almost no patience with my husband, whom I held to the behavioral standards of a mother.”Many women who are wives and mothers will identify with this quote. I certainly did! In fact, I identified with a huge majority of this book. But therein was my problem.
