Freshfields, Latham & Watkins, Travers Smith and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett have all provided counsel for multi-billion dollar private equity transactions. Freshfields advised private equity firm Permira on the sale of the remainder of its minority interest in German software firm P&I to fellow shareholder Hg Capital. The deal values P&I at €5.5 billion.

Partners at Herbert Smith Freehills and Kramer, Levin, Naftalis & Frankel have voted "overwhelmingly" to approve the transatlantic merger of the two firms, which will go live on 1 June, a month later than originally planned. For the merger to succeed, leaders at both firms required a 75% approval rate from their respective partnerships. Though the firms declined to provide a voter breakdown, a spokesperson at HSF said that an "absolutely overwhelming" number approved of the merger.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and Bar Standards Board (BSB) have been criticised by the Legal Services Board, the umbrella watchdog for the U.K.'s legal services, in its annual regulatory performance assessment. The SRA and BSB were deemed to have given “insufficient assurance” to the Legal Services Board (LSB) on their operational delivery, while the BSB also gave insufficient assurance on its leadership, according to the report.
