Teenagers sentenced for arson attack on old chapelMichael WilkinsonThe Grade II listed building was engulfed in flames in November 2023Three teenagers have been sentenced for starting a fire at a Grade II listed building. Firefighters spent hours tackling the blaze at the former Wesley Chapel, on Victoria Road, Hartlepool, on 7 November 2023. They were each given a 12-month referral order to work with the youth justice team and ordered to pay a £26 victim surcharge.

A community centre which provides a warm space and aids those in food poverty is under threat of closure. Charity workers at the Salaam Centre in Hartlepool said its boiler was on the brink of breaking down and it would cost £3,000 to replace. The Big League CIC, which runs the hub, said the local community had rallied and raised half the money, but all "hands were on deck" to raise the rest.

Three teenagers have admitted to starting a "devastating" fire at a Grade II listed building. The former Wesley Methodist chapel, on Victoria Road in Hartlepool, was engulfed by flames on 7 November 2023 while it was being converted into a luxury hotel. A 16-year-old and two 15-year-old boys admitted arson when they appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court, but said they did not intend to start the fire. AdvertisementThey were granted conditional bail and are due to be sentenced on 12 February.
