This seaside house in Deal, Kent, didn't stand out from the crowd when its current owners first saw it – it had a pebbledash front and was cramped inside. But it was affordable, just a stone's throw from the beach, and had the potential to build two separate studio spaces, so artist Caroline and osteopath Graham could each work from home. With two young sons and a desire to raise them by the coast, it was a move that was made to happen.

When Becki and Keiron Ash first moved to their four-bedroom Victorian detached home on the Isle of Wight, the garden was a far cry from the holiday-inspired dream it is today. ‘The garden looked tired,’ remembers Becki. ‘The shed was rotten and we felt it needed a complete overhaul.’ Living on the Isle of Wight means the family have a wonderful outdoorsy lifestyle, walking on the beach most days and swimming in the sea when it’s warm.

Moving into this 1950s U-shaped bungalow in Buckinghamshire, the home owners found it beautifully preserved with retro features and a stunning central courtyard garden, but despite the wonderful vintage vibe, it lacked any mod-cons and the place was full of narrow corridors and pokey rooms. ‘When we decided to make the move back to our home town in Buckinghamshire, we were instantly attracted to this vintage bungalow, just a few streets away from my parents,’ says the home owner.
