All seven seasons of Younger, have recently dropped on Netflix (Tubi, in the UK) and the fast-paced fan-favorite, starring Sutton Foster and Hilary Duff, is already winning over new viewers following its launch on the platform. Set in New York’s glamorous, but cutthroat publishing world, it follows the adventures of 40-something, (almost) divorced mom-of-one, Liza Miller, as she tries to forge a career path in the industry by pretending to be a 26-year-old millennial.

I was late to discover Younger, the quirky romantic sitcom set in a glamorous New York publishing company. It was never big in the UK, so it took a move to the US and a chance recommendation from a new friend (thanks Sarah!) to introduce me to the delights of Liza, Maggie, Josh, Diana, Kelsey, Lauren and Charles. It took some finding, buried at the back of the Paramount Plus streaming library, but I'm nothing if not tenacious when hunting down a show or movie I want to watch.

On the surface All of Us Strangers is about Adam (Andrew Scott — Fleabag, Sherlock, His Dark Materials), a London-based screenwriter suffering from writer’s block and his attempts to push on with the screenplay he’s trying to write about his parents, but it quickly develops into so much more than that. It’s about family ties. About love lost and found. It’s a story about belonging and being on the outside. It’s also a story about the UK. Its humor, regional accents and most of all its culture.

It’s hard not to contrast Priscilla, Sophia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley biopic, with 2022’s Elvis extravaganza from the king of showbiz, Baz Luhrmann. At every turn, they are striking counterpoints. Where Luhrmann's movie was glitzy, vibrant, dynamic and focused on Elvis the icon, Coppola’s movie is meditative and dreamy, its colors are muted and the pacing is slow (sometimes tediously so).
