A Harris's hawk that has been repeatedly attacking villagers has been captured by a resident with the same name. Steve Harris, 40, told the BBC he had managed to humanely catch the hawk in his garden in Flamstead, Hertfordshire. It is estimated that the bird of prey had swooped on at least 50 people since early March, drawing blood from several victims.

How Corby was reborn as a new town 75 years agoThe first day of April 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the village of Corby in Northamptonshire officially becoming a new town. The Glasgow-based steel making firm of Stewarts and Lloyds relocated to Corby in 1932, and thousands of Scottish workers headed south to what became known as "Little Scotland". By 1950, the population had grown from 1,500 to 18,000, and it was designated as a new town the following year.

Police searching for a woman who went missing from her Fenland village several weeks ago have launched a murder investigation and arrested a man as part of their inquiries. The woman, who is in her 50s and from Christchurch near March, Cambridgeshire, has not been seen since late January. Detectives said they were concerned enough about her welfare to treat the disappearance as a "no body" murder case.
