On June 28, the US Supreme Court overturned the Chevron doctrine — the legal principle that the judiciary should defer to a federal agency’s reasonable interpretation of an ambiguous statute. Chevron reflected the view that a federal agency’s subject matter experts are best positioned to interpret and set policy when the language of a statute is silent or ambiguous regarding a specific issue, as opposed to a judge with little experience in the subject matter area.

The First Court of Appeals in Houston is warning the public that scammers are calling community members claiming to be an officer on behalf of a justice of the court. The scammers claim the community member missed jury duty and must pay money to avoid having a warrant issued for their arrest. The First Court of Appeals does not have jury duty, issue warrants for missing jury duty, or prosecute as such.
