Palo Verde’s softball team, after a thrilling 1-0 walk-off win over Centennial last week, kept its undefeated season alive with a home win over Coronado on Monday. The Panthers (13-0), after being limited to one run the first four innings, broke through in the fifth en route to a 5-0 win. Junior pitcher Ava Koenig led the way with her third consecutive scoreless outing. She finished the game with 14 strikeouts and only allowed three hits and one walk.

The Pahrump Valley High School track and field team continued its success this spring with a strong showing at its second Pahrump Midweek #2 Meet last Tuesday. With student-athletes competing from Bonanza, Mojave, Beatty, and Pahrump Valley, the Trojans had top finishers in the majority of the 34 events that took place. Pahrump had a meet-high 20 top finishers. In the boys’ events, the Trojans stood on top of the podium in five of six running events.

Seniors Braxton Rowley and Dane Galvin led the way as Coronado got revenge over Palo Verde in a boys volleyball match Tuesday night at Coronado. The Cougars swept the Panthers 25-15, 25-21, 25-22 in a rematch of last year’s 5A state title game. First-year Coronado coach Jazlynn Mau knew how important it was for her squad to get a win over one of the best teams in the state. “I know what my team faced last year, so being able to help them this season, they’ve earned this,” Mau said.

The Palo Verde boys volleyball team picked up a big early-season road win Thursday night in a match between the past three Class 5A state champions. The Panthers swept Shadow Ridge 25-17, 25-21, 26-24 in a nonleague match. Palo Verde (5-2), the defending state champion, received contributions from all over the court. Four players recorded at least five kills, and three players recorded multiple assists. Seniors Peter Castor and Eli Nelson each had eight kills, and senior Dylan Ho added six.

The Pahrump Valley Lady Trojans softball team kicked off their new season last weekend competing in the Route 66 tournament in Needles, Calif. Following a strong showing last year in which the team finished 19-9, the Lady Trojans opened the 2025 season finishing 1-3 in back-t0-back doubleheaders. With a lack of home field advantage on the road in Needles, the Lady Trojans got going in the third game of the tournament against Williams High School (Ariz.) as they defeated the Vikings 7-3.
