    In the unincorporated areas of San Diego County, residents can be involved in county government by volunteering for their local planning group. Members of these community planning groups advise the San Diego County Board of Supervisors on planning and land use matters affecting their area. The Rainbow Community Planning Group has 11 seats, one of which is currently vacant. So, the group is looking for a fellow resident to help them preserve their way of life in Rainbow.

    Three fires started burning in the Fallbrook/Bonsall area in the early morning hours of Jan. 21 but were kept from growing out of control by the joint efforts of more than 40 fire departments. No cause has been revealed yet for any of the three as investigations continue, but arson is one possibility. The smallest of the three, the Riverview fire in the north part of Fallbrook was contained to one acre within three hours with only one outbuilding destroyed.

    The Fallbrook Christmas Parade scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7 is the 43rd time the event has been planned, but there is now some uncertainty that it will happen that has nothing to do with the weather. While setting out chairs to save spots has become a tradition in itself, not every sidewalk is wide enough to allow for pedestrian traffic behind the chairs. And that could be a problem.

    Fallbrook Union High School District held its first Student of the Month breakfast for the new school year, Thursday, Oct. 3, at North Coast Church. The honored seniors are Alejandro Betancourt, Lucia Mochel, and Elizabeth Tagle-Nava from Fallbrook High and Sophia Bezman from Oasis High. Betancourt, nominated by Alydia Han, has a 4.20 grade point average with a packed schedule including AP classes, sports (football, cross country and track), community service, and tutoring other students.
