The 2025 London marathon is fast approaching, but those preparing for this year's race may also be looking ahead to 2026. The course, which sets off from Blackheath and took runners past Cutty Sark in Greenwich, Canary Wharf, The Shard and Tower Bridge, finished up at St James's Park. An oil tanker has split in half after facing stormy weather near Crimea, prompting a desperate rescue mission to save the crew members on board. The two cargo ships were left severely damaged following bad weather in the Kerch Strait, which lies between mainland Russia and annexed Crimea. The vessels were carrying oil products, and have requested assistance, according to the country's emergency services ministry.

Two people have been hospitalised and a dog was killed after a gas explosion onboard a 'pleasure boat' in North Wales. The explosion at Chirk Marina, in Wrexham, caused two boats to catch fire at around 6pm on Saturday, December 14, with fire rescue crews rushing to the scene. Two people caught in the blaze managed to escape with minor injuries, and were transported to hospital by an ambulance. The vessel then completely sank, killing a pet dog on board.

Police have launched a fresh appeal to identify a man found dead in a canal 14 years ago. West Midlands Police have issued an e-fit image in a bid to help find any friends of family of the man who was found in the Fazeley Canal in Edington, Birmingham at about 8am on November 4, 2010. The man was never identified despite extensive inquiries into the case, and West Midlands Police said it is one of the longest-running cases for its Unresolved Missing Persons Investigation Team.
