JD Vance joked Italy’s prime minister Giorgia Meloni could have called him a “jerk” as he complimented the Italian language on his Easter visit to Rome. The US vice president visited Italy on Friday (18 April), following Ms Meloni’s visit to the White House to meet Donald Trump the previous day. During his meeting with the Italy prime minister, Vance appeared somewhat taken with the Italian language.

Soap legend Ian Smith has said his terminal cancer diagnosis put him in a “cruel, ugly, brutal place”. The actor, who played Harold Bishop in Australian soap Neighbours, revealed he has a rare form of lung cancer called pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma, last year. Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Friday (18 April), Smith gave an update on his diagnosis.

Former Scotland football manager Graeme Souness broke down in tears as he opened up about a painful health condition during a live television interview. The Liverpool legend is swimming to Calais and back to raise money for DEBRA UK, a charity which carries out research into treatments for the rare condition Epidermolysis Bullosa. The television pundit appeared on Good Morning Britain on Friday (18 April), alongside Isla Grist, who suffers with the condition.

Petrified Florida State University students hid under tables after a shooter opened fire at the Tallahassee campus on Thursday (17 April). Two people were killed and six others injured after a shooter opened fire at Florida State University’s Tallahassee campus. The suspected gunman, 20-year-old student Phoenix Ikner, opened fire near the student union building at around lunchtime. Student Sophia Weimar filmed students hiding as alarms sounded.

Rio Ferdinand’s hilarious reaction to Manchester United’s dramatic Europa League comeback has been captured on camera. The former centre-back was commentating on United’s Europa League clash against Lyon for TNT Sports on Thursday evening (17 April). United trailed 4-2 in extra time of the Europa League quarter-final when Alexandre Lacazette converted a 109th minute penalty and some supporters decided to head for the exits.
