It’s hard to ignore the buzz surrounding Nicole Kidman’s new film, erotic thriller Babygirl. It sees her take on the role of Romy, a commanding chief executive who begins an illicit affair with her handsome and much younger intern, Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson.

Of all the authors I’ve met via social media, Joanna Rakoff is probably my favourite. I loved her debut novel, A Fortunate Age - the story of six Oberlin College graduates living their post-collegiate lives in New York, and adored her memoir, My Salinger Year even more. A quintessential coming-of-age, it’s the perfect book about publishing, and one that I return to every couple of years. Her essays are also rich with intimacy and heart.

'Un vaso de agua por favor, sin limón' (can I have a glass of water without lemon please) and 'lo siento, no entiendo, soy Inglesa' (I'm sorry, I don't understand, I'm English) might not seem like the *most* useful Spanish phrases. But for a long time, these two sentences were all I could speak of that language - learning them from my late grandfather, who retired to Spain in his sixties. I wish I had picked up more Spanish over those long summer holidays.

Widely regarded as Australia’s most dazzling city, Sydney is home to one of the world’s most beautiful urban beaches and carries its own unique brand of charm. Thanks to its heady mix of salt water, world-class surf, and big-city buzz, this slice of the southern hemisphere is one of the most sought-after holiday destinations in the world – and is perfect for anyone wanting to escape the harsh grey of winter for sunnier climes down under.

They say that opposites attract, and it's certainly true with me and my boyfriend. We'd both been living in Sydney for over half a decade, and met one blue-skied summer's afternoon, almost two years ago, when I was walking home from a bar in Bondi. I spotted him as he was about to walk past me on the street, and I fancied him straight away. He had a head of thick, dark hair, his skin was olive-brown, and ribbons of skin were visible under his forearms that were swathed in tattoos.

Who needs the gym when there are views like this? Lace up your hiking boots and unleash the mood-lifting power of nature. When it comes to hiking, Aussies are spoilt for choice. With around 34,000 kms of coastline, over 600 national parks and a whopping 3.6 million hectares of rainforest, much of our country’s natural landscape is best explored on foot.

For the sixth consecutive year, Finland has been named the happiest country on earth. We flew there to discover why, and what we found was surprisingly simple. When it comes to milking the most out of life, it seems those clever Scandis have it down pat. While research consistently shows Nordic folk are among the happiest on the planet, one country, in particular, keeps nabbing the number-one spot: Finland.

When I was invited to take part in a masterclass in happiness on the shores of Finnish Lakeland, a few of my friends expressed their surprise. But, Lucy, said one, you’re one of the happiest people I know. What are you hoping to learn from the Finns? I suppose she had a point. I’ve always been one of those annoying, glass-half-full people – not the most obvious choice for a four-day trip designed to teach me why Finnish people are consistently rated the happiest in the world.
