    A burst of thought from me today as a result of a series of individually small things that have collectively meant a lot and reminded me why I love to create. In creative spheres, it’s fair to say that a lot of the time and effort we put in is not matched by financial gain. In fact, mostly we receive nothing monetary for our efforts. But, undeterred, we keep going. We continue to make, to write, to draw, to fulfil our creative needs in whatever ways suit us best.

    While Selling Sunset might be responsible for peddling an unrealistic image of Los Angeles in today’s Netflix era, I blame my own high hopes on growing up as an avid reader of the Sweet Valley High books. After devouring the series in its entirety, I soon after moved to the Saturday morning TV series, and so, spent a large part of my younger years fantasising about spending weekends in shopping malls, boys named Brad, and driving around California beaches in an open-top Jeep.

    In hindsight, it was a rather stupid move to uproot my life for a boy I met on a boat in Sydney one summer. But, ever the hopeless romantic, after a six-day holiday romance nine years ago when I was 29, I packed up my life in London to move across the world for him. When I told friends and family my plan, while most of them were supportive, a few looked (understandably) baffled.
