We know the Holy Spirit is a source of love, joy and peace. But we should remember that same Spirit also helps us in our suffering, says Lucy Peppiatt In the church circles I move in, we often think about the work of the Spirit in relation to the gifts of the Spirit spoken about in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11: wisdom, words of knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous power, prophecy, discernment, tongues and their interpretation.

Navigating the delicate balance between protection and exposure, Lucy Peppiatt makes the case for embracing discomfort and adopting ‘brave spaces’, where our Christian beliefs can be respectfully challenged You’ve probably heard the phrase ‘safe space’, but what do you think it means? This famous biblical story has long been misunderstood, says Dr Lucy Peppiatt  I wonder what you think about the Samaritan woman who meets Jesus at the well. We’re not told her name in John 4 but, in the Eastern Orthodox Church, she’s well known as St Photina, an evangelist and martyr. Photina, they say, was either imprisoned and martyred in Carthage, North Africa or she went to Rome, where she was tortured and killed by Emperor Nero.
