    CREATORS If you’ve ever bought a diamond, you’re likely familiar with the Four Cs.  Color, Cut, Clarity and Carat. It was the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) that developed the Four Cs, now the standard for diamond assessments. Texas Tech University alumna Rebecca Beals joined the GIA faculty in 2022 and played a vital part in rewriting their curriculum.   She began her career 10 years prior as a bench jeweler.

Angelica Cirerol noticed lots of stray dogs during occasional business trips to Lubbock. “My colleague once stopped the car in the middle of the highway to avoid hitting a dog. We realized this was a common occurrence in Lubbock,” she said, adding, “It broke my heart.”Cirerol thought of her own best friend, her lab Bubba, and decided to do something.

    CREATORS Blaine Majors loved the saxophone from the time he first picked it up. His mother encouraged Blaine and his brother to try an instrument when they started middle school. She’d been a flute player, building special memories in band, and she wanted that for her kids. Eleven years later, Blaine will graduate from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in music education from the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts.

    CREATORS Texas Tech University’s School of Law has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation to support its Caprock Regional Public Defender Office & Clinic. The grant will fund the Connect Caprock Initiative, which provides laptops for rural jails in the clinic’s 12-county area. Law students will use these laptops to help indigent defendants get remote legal access and timely representation, making it easier to overcome geographical barriers.
