    Trying arrived quietly on Apple+ TV in May 2020, and clearly needed a lot more fanfare to announce its arrival, because it's flown under the radar. It's clearly doing something right, as a fifth season has been given the go-ahead. But while Trying has a loyal fanbase, I want it to be bigger - this is definitely the best comedy you're not watching. As the name implies, call centre operator Nikki (Esther Smith) and teacher Jason (Rafe Spall) are trying for a baby with no luck.

    If, like me, you're a bit bored of Netflix at the moment, I'll save you trawling through lists of what to watch instead - just put on Cheaters on BBC iPlayer. I found this incredible short-form comedy on a list of iPlayer hidden gems, and became obsessed with it within the first few seconds. Cheaters was written and created by Oliver Lyttelton, and stars Susan Wokoma as Fola, Joshua McGuire as Josh, Callie Cooke as Esther, and Jack Fox as Zack.

    It’s a rare thing for a TV show to leap out from the screen, grab you by the throat, and demand your full attention within minutes. But Rivals did exactly that when it lit up Disney+ with its sizzling presence in October last year. And now, with a second season already in production, it’s clear this unapologetically glamorous, scandalous drama is here to stay. I was first drawn in by the glitzy, star-studded cast – a dazzling lineup that promised 80s debauchery and delivered it in spades.

    An emotional Ruth Jones has won the Bafta for Best Female Performance in a Comedy at the star-studded awards ceremony. This was a much-deserved win for her portrayal of the iconic Vanessa Shanessa 'Nessa' Jenkins in the Gavin & Stacey finale.
