The Takeaway New Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Assistant Professor Katherine Alexander has identified two patterns of nuclear speckles in the most common form of kidney cancer. Her research at the University of Pennsylvania suggests speckle patterns may correlate with patient outcomes. The finding offers a new starting point in the search for personalized kidney cancer treatments.

The Takeaway CSHL scientists and their collaborators have uncovered critical differences between how innate-like T cells mature in humans and mice. Early in life, most innate-like T cells in the human thymus aren’t able to use all of their immune abilities. The discovery could point to better preclinical studies and, perhaps someday, a new form of immunotherapy.

NMDAR binds to the neurotransmitter, glutamate, and another compound, glycine. These bindings control NMDAR’s dance steps. When their routine is over, the NMDAR opens.
