    If you head to the National Mall in D.C. this week you will see 30,000 small flags planted on the lawn in front of the U.S. Capital. There’s a mix of American and purple flags to represent the millions who suffer from migraines and other headache disorders. Each of the flags represents 1,500 people, according to Julienne Verdi with the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy or AHDA. The instillation is called “Headache on the Hill” and coincides with Migraine and Headache Awareness Month.

    Fairfax County, Virginia, is considering changing how residents’ trash will be picked up. Many residents expressed their disapproval Tuesday at a town hall hosted by Supervisor Pat Herrity. The proposal being considered by the board of supervisors would transition trash collection from a system where residents and homeowners associations choose a company for themselves to one where “Unified Sanitation Districts” are overseen by the county, which would choose a company and negotiate prices.

    Numerous laws have gone into effect this month in Maryland, but one law set to start in October has consumer protection experts unhappy with the state. They say the new Maryland law doesn’t go far enough to address predatory lending practices surrounding “earned wage advances,” commonly known as payday loans, which can now be taken out via smartphone apps. “You would download an app on your phone and take out a loan, generally a very small loan, sometimes around $90 to a max of, usually, $150.
