MP Luke Murphy (Image: House of Commons) My grandparents worked as cleaners, doing tough, low-paid jobs. But they were able to raise a family in a council house that gave them security and dignity. That stability – affordable housing, decent public services, fair wages – helped give my family a shot at a better life. It gave them the chance to believe that things could get better. Too many people in Basingstoke today feel that opportunity is slipping further out of reach.
