Bekah Brinser and Sylvia Gantt proved clutch in Greenwood’s 57-51 victory over Veritas on Jan. 3. Brinser posted a triple double (12 points, 10 rebounds, 10 steals with five assists and three blocks for good measure) while Gantt drained 16 of 18 from the line accounting for all of her points. Brinser scored eight of her 12 and generated several momentum turning steals in the decisive fourth quarter, rallying the Wildcats to the stirring victory and upping their record to 8-2.

The Wildcats drained a combined 41 of 50 or 82% from the stripe in their victories over Veritas Academy (51-41) and Tri-Valley (64-60). “We were due to shoot the ball well from the well from the free throw line,” stated Greenwood skipper Troy Gantt, whose team has struggled in that department at times.

The Perry County Boys’ Championship last resided in the Cove when gasoline averaged $1.43 per gallon. In fact, the long struggling Susquenita program was 10-30 overall in PeCo tournament games since their last championship (2002). The Blackhawks took all that pent-up frustration out on West Perry as they emphatically defeated the Mustangs 52-32 to claim the County Crown.
