Bob Dylan is one of the world’s most influential and revered songwriters, but so much remains mysterious about his life and career. In that rich, ambiguous space, director James Mangold has created a beautiful biographical depiction of the man born Robert Zimmerman in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1941. A Complete Unknown is based on the book Dylan Goes Electric!: Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night That Split the Sixties by Elijah Wald.

Kris Kristofferson, a renowned singer-songwriter, actor and activist, died at his home in Hawaii on September 28 at the age of 88. Radio Heartland’s Mike Pengra recently shared his recollection that Kristofferson had once been a guest on MPR News during a live broadcast from the Minnesota State Fair. Thanks to the MPR Archive, we were able to locate that audio. Listen to an excerpt using the audio player above.

Singer-songwriter Sierra Ferrell took home awards for Album of the Year (Trail of Flowers) and Artist of the Year at the Americana Music Association’s 2024 Honors and Awards program Wednesday night at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Ferrell led the field in an evening that saw several women artists take home awards in a nearly four-hour event that featured an array of dazzling performances while also celebrating the Americana Music Association’s 25th anniversary.
