Bellying up with ... She serves up drinks at Shae's Pub and Grub in Arcola, but AMANDA LOPEZ is making the commute there from Charleston, where she's attending Eastern Illinois University. Lopez is more than familiar with the industry after working at six different types of restaurants even though this is her first job as a bartender. "I find service skills to be something I enjoyed and was good at, so starting a new section of the industry has been amazing," Lopez said.

Mar. 11—CHAMPAIGN — If warm weather has you thinking about taking a vacation, there's good news if you prefer driving. Gas prices had gone up about 6 cents a gallon over the last month in Champaign, but in the past week they've begun dropping. Nationally, average gas prices are at their lowest since 2021, when early stages of the pandemic were causing a significant impact on demand.
