CUMBERLAND – Juniors and seniors in Cumberland High School’s biomedical science, law and public safety, and emergency medical technician pathway programs put their skills to the test during an on-site mass casualty simulation event held on April 25. This is the fifth year that the school has simulated either a bleacher collapse or a serious bus crash, said Assistant Principal Heather Delfino, who is also director of the eight pathway programs at CHS.

CENTRAL FALLS – After being declared unsafe by the Department of Public Works and Code Enforcement on April 30, CV Transportation, 30 Conduit St., has been closed, and its owner must appear at housing court tonight May 7, to present rehabilitation plans to the city. This is one of the Central Falls Nuisance Property Task Force’s several long-term efforts to clean up Conduit Street, according to City Solicitor and task force member Matt Jerzyk.

CENTRAL FALLS – Looking back on the district’s first year using First Student as their contractor for school bus services, Central Falls School District Director of Operations and Safety Rory Marty says that despite the learning curve, everything went pretty well. “It’s taken some burden off of the school department in that it’s a much deeper playlist than what we had,” he said. “In other words, if a driver is out, we don’t have to worry about that.

PAWTUCKET – After stepping into his new role as executive director of the Blackstone Valley Community Action Program on March 25, David Bodah says he’s learned that the organization has “tremendous untapped potential.” He said it can definitely have more of an impact on residents of the core communities it serves. “I want to see where the opportunities are to maximize our impact through partnerships,” Bodah told The Breeze.
