Rumors of snow hitting the Lowcountry this weekend and early next week for the first time in seven years might not be too far off. Even though specific conditions are still fairly uncertain, it is clear that residents should dig out their coats, gloves and boots. Following a rainy, chilly weekend, temperatures are likely to drop into the 30s on Tuesday and Wednesday, with windchill reaching as low as 10 degrees.

Anne Bonny, a nine-foot, 425-pound great white shark, is making herself comfortable off the coast of South Carolina. OCEARCH, a nonprofit agency that tags and tracks ocean animals attached a device to the juvenile great white in April 2023. Since then, she has traveled over 8,000 miles, swimming up and around Nova Scotia and moving all the way back down to the ocean waters off the Lowcountry.

Gracie the eagle recently laid two eggs on the Hilton Head Island Land Trust’s newly-installed second Eagle Cam. She laid her first egg on Jan. 3 and her second on Tuesday. Gracie and her mate George have been nesting at the undisclosed location on the island for 13 years, but this season is their debut on the big screen. The land trust’s first Raptor Cam, which started in 2021, is still running though the nest is currently empty after sustaining damage from Hurricane Helene.
