Down to 23 ministers from the previous 37, this cabinet was lean and mean so it could focus on the trade war with the U.S. No longer just an existential threat, Donald Trump’s America with its daily taunts of turning Canada into the 51st state is now an actual threat to our sovereignty.

Iqaluit is the capital city of the Canadian territory of Nunavut. Its name translates into “place of many fish,” which is symbolized in the city’s official flag and seal. It now has a population of more than 7,000. When I was born there (half a century ago), it had just been officially recognized as a village. It was still a part of the Northwest Territories and called Frobisher Bay. In the late 1960s my grandparents Dezso and Katalin Miklos founded the Frobisher Inn.

I was delighted when I heard the happy news that the cities of Hamilton and Burlington were both named Tree Cities of The World by the Arbor Day Foundation, a program of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. This designation was first given out to cities across the globe in 2019. Cities named to this list demonstrate leadership in the management of their urban trees. This is the second year in a row that Burlington and Hamilton have received this honour.
