Bryan Chapell said Thursday he will step down from his role as the chief administrative officer of the Presbyterian Church in America. Chapell sparked widespread criticism last week when he revealed a Post-it note with a handwritten list of names he identified as social media “scandalizers” in the denomination. The video recording of the podcast only briefly showed him waving the paper, but viewers who paused the footage said they could make out the names on it.

At least 18 people died in tornadoes in Kentucky on Friday, and severe weather claimed the lives of nine others in the South and Midwest. In southeastern Kentucky, suspected tornadoes swept through rural Laurel and Pulaski counties, damaging hundreds of homes. In Pulaski County, a longtime veteran of the fire department died while responding to calls for help, the Associated Press reported.

NICK EICHER, HOST: And I’m Nick Eicher. A military helicopter crashed into American Airlines flight 5342 over Washington Wednesday night. A fireball was visible and the doomed aircraft dropped into the Potomac River along with 60 passengers. Some of them were returning from a figure skating competition in Wichita last week.
