1 INTRODUCTION Consumption of alcohol, tobacco or illicit drugs during pregnancy is harmful to maternal health and foetal development. These harms include foetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) [1-3], sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) [4], and a range of other serious conditions, such as placental insufficiency, placental abruption, stillbirth, low birthweight, preterm birth and birth defects [5-11].

INTRODUCTION In January 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledged the severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), an acute respiratory syndrome caused by coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) (Lai et al., 2020), and declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, and then a worldwide pandemic in March 2020 (Bulut & Kato, 2020). As of 11 June 2022, in total, there were 532,201,219 confirmed cases, and 6,305,358 people died (case fatality ratio 1.18%) (WHO, 2022).
