The American Academy of Sleep Medicine celebrates another milestone as 207 physicians successfully matched with a sleep medicine fellowship training program on Dec. 4 during “Match Day” for the 2025 appointment year. This year’s match showcased continued growth in the sleep field, with 102 sleep medicine training programs participating across the U.S.After completing a one-year fellowship, these physicians will be eligible to sit for the annual sleep medicine board certification exam.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the finalized 2025 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Value Pathways (MVPs), including a new pulmonology care MVP, which was developed by the AASM in collaboration with several other agencies and CMS. The pulmonology care MVP focuses on evaluating optimal care for patients being treated for a range of pulmonology conditions, including COPD, asthma, sleep apnea, and general pulmonary issues.

DARIEN, IL – A 2024 survey from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine reveals that 51% of Americans have never discussed their sleep with a health professional. The AASM advises that talking about sleep concerns can help doctors identify underlying problems and potentially diagnose a sleep disorder. “Over half (54%) of Americans believe that they don’t get enough sleep yet they do not volunteer this information when they meet with their health care providers,” said Dr. Kin M.

In the 2021 Medicare physician fee schedule final rule, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) added a new Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code, G2211, as a reimbursable service. This code reflects visit complexity and increases the value of office and outpatient evaluation and management (E/M) services that are part of a patient’s ongoing health management.
