You may remember a blog I did last year about a course given by Oklahoma State University called “Strong Dads”. I interviewed Lacey McCause, Strong Dads Field Coordinator with Tulsa County Cooperative Extension Service. She talked about the goals of the class and how it can benefit dads of any age. There is also a nice compensation for travel costs, a $10 gift card to QuikTrip for each class you attend. And three $25 gift cards to Walmart after completing a survey about the class.

My son and I crammed so much into 5 days, 4 nights in Texas I had to break my story into three parts! Again, I hope you had as good a break as we did, filled with family, friends, and food!!Since the mid to late ’80s, shortly after we graduated high school, my sister has lived in Austin, Texas. I visited many times before I finally graduated college and moved down there, too. Her husband worked in the concert ticket industry at a company called Star Tickets.

Driving from Tulsa to Austin takes about 7 hours if you stop only once to gas up and take a quick potty break. The only time I’ve done that is when I’m traveling alone. I did it a lot when my brother and mother in Austin were very sick and dying. My brother passed about 15 years ago from cancer. My mother passed about 5 years later, also from cancer. During both situations I drove back and forth many times. I’d stay in Austin for a couple days at a time, come home for a week or so, then go back down.

Does your family enjoy going on road trips? My dad made money in college by driving a tractor trailer in his off time. He very much enjoyed driving, which was good for him because the majority of his family lived in central and south Texas, but when he met my mom, who is from Pennsylvania, he had many road trips in his future. So, we kids were destined to put many miles under our feet. On the Road AgainI do love a good road trip. And yes, I play Willie Nelson’s “On The Road Again” every time.
