HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Circuit Court Judge Peter Kubota made it clear that he did not approve of the repeated efforts by Hawaii County attorneys to block the distribution of evidence in the Dana Ireland murder case. The County is now asking the Hawaii Supreme Court to weigh in. The evidence was collected during the investigation of Albert Lauro, Jr., who was identified through genetic DNA testing. The national database was then used to confirm Lauro was the person who attacked Ireland.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Upcountry Maui residents have become accustomed to fires in the late summer months. Dry, windy conditions often push flames dangerously close to neighborhoods, consuming the seemingly endless supply of invasive trees and plants. On Aug. 8, 2023, with hurricane-force winds whipping across the islands, multiple fires were reported in Olinda and Kula and the flames ultimately claimed 19 homes and scorched more than 1,000 acres.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The man behind the DNA discovery in the Dana Ireland case said Hawaii County police had enough to arrest the suspect on July 19. Instead, Albert Lauro, Jr., was released and committed suicide four days later. Stephen Kramer, a former federal prosecutor and the man who co-founded the FBI's forensic genealogy team, said a DNA match from the national database CODIS was enough probable cause to arrest Lauro for Ireland's 1991 murder.
