O’Fallon has hired longtime emergency medical technician Jeremy Sherman as its first EMS chief. “He will be in charge of everything EMS — budgets, personnel, equipment,” said Police Chief Kirk Brueggeman, director of public safety. Sherman, who has been an EMT since 1997, has been part of the O’Fallon city-operated team since 2009. He said the appointment of a specialized EMS chief was necessary because of the city’s growth and the increased demand on public safety services.

Because rain and storms are forecast for Friday, the Community Park grand opening celebration may be delayed. Yet the new aquatic center is still on track to open Saturday. Andrew Dallner, director of parks and recreation, said the city will make the call midday regarding the evening events. “We are keeping a close eye on the weather this week. We’ll determine whether it’s a go or a no around 11 – 12 o’clock. We don’t want the bands in the rain.
