Milwaukee County leaders advocated for a major investment from state lawmakers as Wisconsin's Joint Finance Committee met Friday at Wisconsin State Fair Park.County Leaders are asking for a $500 million investment to demolish and rebuild Milwaukee's Public Safety Building.The committee held a public hearing which was met with a packed crowd, all with their own concerns for Gov. Tony Evers' state budget.
NFL Draft construction to begin in Green Bay

The NFL Draft is coming soon to Green Bay, and construction of the Draft Theater begins March 29. The Draft Theater site will be on the east side of Lambeau Field on Oneida Street. Due to the construction, South Oneida Street will be closed between Lombardi Avenue and Ridge Road. Armed Forces Drive will also be closed. Road closures begin Saturday, March 29, and are expected to last until May 10.

For two straight seasons, the Plainview Lady Bulldogs reached the postseason but were taken down in the bi-district round. With nearly the entire varsity roster returning from a year ago, Head Coach Adrian Alfaro believes this year’s team is capable of making a deep playoff push. “We have a special group here,” Alfaro said. “I really see us making a deep run." The sky’s the limit for this team, he added.

The Plainview boys basketball program has experienced a lot of change over the past three years. The most significant is probably the change of head coaches. Head Coach Rob Ogle is the third head coach in as many years. He doesn’t plan on going anywhere, though. He hopes to develop a new culture, starting with this year’s core group. “We want to be known as a blue-collar team. We want to play good, solid defense and limit our opponents to one possession per trip down the floor,” Ogle said.

The Lockney Lady Longhorn coaching position has been a revolving door with four coaches over the past four seasons. New head coach Jazmin De La Rosa is hoping to make her stamp as she takes over a very young and inexperienced group. “We’re going to be very young and we’re going to have to figure out what the identity of our team is going to be,” De La Rosa said. De La Rosa is in her fourth year of coaching after spending her first three years at her hometown of Dawson as the head basketball coach.

Last year was a learning experience for both the players and coaches on Lockney’s boys basketball team. With Cody Brewer being named the head coach just weeks before the season’s start, the team had to spend a good part of their season learning his schemes and getting comfortable with his style of play. Head Coach Alfonso Franklin will be the first to admit it was a tough way to end the season. But as the new year approaches, he believes the core group he has should be a contender once again for the district crown. “If we’re all pulling in the same direction, we can have a really special season,” Franklin said.
