    On Friday, NextLight celebrated 10 years of serving the Longmont community. As part of its celebration, it announced that it would begin offering a discount for local eligible nonprofits. “There are so many groups and organizations that serve as Longmont’s helping hands, working hard to make this a stronger, better community,” said Valerie Dodd, NextLight’s executive director.

    Despite the 117 public charging stations, five of which are maintained by Longmont Power and Communications, Longmont trails other municipalities in Boulder County in the adoption of electric vehicles. Atlas Public Policy released a report stating the number of EVs in Boulder County rose by 27% in 2024 now making up one in 16 vehicles on the road. EV sales also increased in the county every month so far in 2024 while gas-powered vehicles on the road declined in August and September.

    Mark and Kena Guttridge, owners of Ollin Farms will be the keynote speakers at this year's Sustainable Resilient Longmont Sustainability awards. The couple's farm is located at 8627 N. 95th St. #7718 and hosts an annual Community Supported Agriculture program, education programs for youth and a farmstand with fresh produce to purchase. More than that, the couple strive to produce nutrient rich foods by utilizing regenerative agricultural practices.

    The Price Park Tank Replacement Project began in Sept. 2022 and is expected to be completed after its testing period which will begin Nov. 4. In 1882, Longmont constructed open air water storage reserviors near Sunset Park, Price Park and Sunset Pool Golf Course. In 1923, a 7 million gallon reservoir was built south of the original reservoirs and in 1940 an 11 million gallon per day pump house and 100,000 gallon water tower were built.

    Renovations to Vance Brand Civic Auditorium prevented students from taking the stage this fall. Instead of skipping a semester of theater, Lauren Sorey, theater director at Skyline High School decided to take the show on the road. Sorey’s career has allowed her to participate in many types of theater productions but one she loved was simple musicals that appealed to young kids.
