Boston has found its next poet laureate to lead the city in public poetry programs and inspire young writers. Emmanuel Oppong-Yeboah will be the city’s fourth poet laureate, Mayor Michelle Wu and the city's Office of Arts and Culture announced Thursday. Oppong-Yeboah, who uses he/they pronouns, will assume the four-year role in July. They succeed Porsha Olayiwola, co-owner of Dorchester’s independent bookstore justBook-ish, whose term ended in January.

The 129th Boston Marathon happens Monday, April 21. But there’s another 26.2-mile race happening on Saturday, and the course loops through the city. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu called 26.TRUE the “real” Boston marathon last year. The unsanctioned race, organized by Dorchester-based PIONEERS Run Crew, began during the pandemic in 2020 when the Boston Marathon moved to a virtual format.

Naturally, the people of Massachusetts have a lot to say about it and many events to celebrate the occasion. This week is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s midnight ride, but if that’s just a Noah Kahan song to you, there’s plenty more arts events happening in Greater Boston this weekend.
