Oaks Park wants to let its light shine with a new thrill ride offering a sweeping view at the top of the Willamette River on one side and the city center’s only wildlife refuge on the other. The so-called drop tower would shoot straight up, taller than both the amusement park’s timeless Ferris wheel and its more recent pink-and-blue “Adrenaline Peak” rollercoaster. It would carry riders up about 135 feet and then drop them in a free fall before powerful magneticbrakes kick in.

A former Multnomah County corrections deputy is accused of developing a relationship with a man in jail and later smuggling drugs to him. Devona Preble was arrested Tuesday and booked at the Multnomah County Detention Center after a monthslong investigation, the sheriff’s office said. Preble, 43, faces three felony charges, including supplying contraband, and four misdemeanor counts of official misconduct.

“Aggressive” mountain goats injured a dog after approaching a family’s campsite near the Grande Ronde River in northeastern Oregon, prompting a warning from wildlife officials to remain alert and keep distancefrom the animals. The family was camping between Meadow Creek and Alder Creek when two mountain goats approached, said Holly Tuers Lance, a district wildlife biologist with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife who responded to the report.
