Matt Connors’ first UK institutional exhibition opened on 8th March at the Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art. The title of the exhibition, ‘Finding Aid’, refers to the document used to decode the organisation of an archive. Or, more accurately, it is a meta-document – a codification system used to decode a larger codification system. This language of translations, mirrors and codes pervade the exhibition.

At Guts Gallery’s latest show ‘Beyond Boundaries’ (16 February – 12th March 2024), energy is palpable both on and off the canvas. The gallery space, tucked down an alleyway in Hackney, is packed wall to wall with people, spilling out into the street. Music is pumping through the two-roomed space. The exhibition does not attempt to mark some paradigmatic threshold in contemporary abstract painting.

Anthropologist Daniel Bruckner says the attitude of the Federal Court and the general sentiment towards the Native Title Act in the late 1990s and early 2000s was the root cause of the Wongatha claim’s failure. Mr Bruckner began working with the Wongatha people in 2006 after he was accepted as a research fellow at the University of Western Australia to do fieldwork for his PhD.
